Yo, Reader!
Wait...SHUCKS! I don't know if I introduced myself!
Like--my origin story!
Born in the city of brotherly love (Philadelphia, PA), tiny Olive was predisposed to becoming just a liiittle artsy. When she was like…juuust old enough to remember what 2+2 was, she watched her bio-dad drawing something while sitting on the porch of her early childhood home. Bio-dad was drawing a unicorn or some other equine-like life form, detailed with brilliant line work and framed with a very strong silhouette, and it. Was. Mind-blowing. To tiny Olive. Needless to say, that adorable lil’ bee was freakin’ obsessed with art from that point forward.
O-Okay—I can’t keep talkin’ about myself in third person. Hi!
So the first thing I remember drawing, was an emotion. A self portrait, of myself crying. Captioned, “Olivia is sad.”
Ever since, art kinda became a lot of things for me: an escape from a troubled childhood, a way to cope with things that upset me or that I couldn’t understand, a way for me to interact with the world around me…the list goes on.
I doodled a lot, especially in school. In fact, I was super crafty!
In elementary school, I remember making a Sonic-themed Power Point presentation about rocks (we had to change his name because copyright—no way I’ve been at odds with copyright since I was in freakin elementary school!) and a pop-up book report about James and the Giant Peach.
In middle school, I started singing and playing violin and was introduced to anime! Through Princess Mononoke! It gave me nightmares! I could remember it wrong but that was straight up a core memory for me.
Oh, and before that, video games became a major part of my childhood. Street Fighter Third Strike, Mega Man X4, Syphon Filter, Capcom Vs. SNK 2,Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, Monster Hunter Tri—The Nintendo Wii…the list goes on. And, as you would expect, all of it was incredibly inspiring to me as an artist!
I’d always been known as the kid who doodled no matter where she was. Class, childcare, the yard, lunch, the bus…I got “can you draw me”, “can you draw me [insert thing here]”, “can you draw [blank].”
I’ve even started looking into voice acting, as that was also something I did when I was growing up. Making voices and stuff. And when I worked at Starbucks, a customer complimented my voice and said her kids loved it! Which…ah! Made my heart soar.
And you know…that’s cool and all, right? But I wanted to start making stuff that I love! A little into high school, that’s when I made the change and started pivoting towards making my own thing. Fan art of Sonic, Jak and Ratchet, of Dragonball Goku and Naruto was okay, but that’s art for someone else’s story. Which are admittedly some freakin’ cool stories.
Which brings me to…well, current! Olive!
Current Olive—er—me. I’m me. I’m currently working on my own story. I’m writing a webcomic, working on an indie game, and always looking for ways to tell fun, enriching stories in a bunch of different ways. Needless to say, I’ve got a lotta hats wibblin’ around up there on the ol’ fro, don’t I? I know. It’s…there’s a lot of ‘em. And while I’m bumbling and wobbling around, I’m excited to share my work with the world! Kinda…give back to it, in a sense. Maybe I can become someone’s inspiration.
So...there ya go! Little lore drop! Now you know me a lil' better! >;)
🍊Nice to Officially Meet Ya! Have a fantastic weekend!🍊
